An editorial index of hotels, in four categories

About

About This Register

What vernnypower.com is, how the entries are written, and what we deliberately leave out.

vernnypower.com publishes a single thing: a register of hotels, grouped into four chapters — art hotels, capsule hotels, casino hotels and ice hotels — and described in continuous prose. There is no ranking, no score, no booking engine and no shortlist of the week.

How entries are written

Each entry is written to answer three questions a specification sheet cannot: what kind of building is this, what is it organised around, and who tends to be happy there. We describe character rather than inventory, and we prefer a sentence about how a lobby is used to a list of what it contains.

We keep facts general and durable on purpose. Rates, seasons, opening hours, room counts and menus change without notice, and a site that repeats them quickly becomes a source of small inaccuracies. Where a figure genuinely matters, the property's own website is the place to check it.

What we do not publish

No reviews, no star ratings, no user scores and no fabricated guest quotations. Nothing on this site is a booking, a reservation, a quotation or an offer, and we hold no commercial relationship with any hotel described. Where a chapter covers hotels containing gaming floors, we write about them as hotels; we publish no gaming information, promotions or inducements of any kind.

Geography

The register is not tied to one country. Hotels are chosen because they represent their format clearly, and they happen to fall across several continents. Some chapters concentrate geographically for the simple reason that the format does — the capsule hotel chapter is Japanese because that is where the format is practised most seriously.
